Partnership

Angela Jaques and Joanna Lawrence formed the partnership in March 2001. Up until then both had been involved with food at a high level for some time, each running a successful career in catering for some of the grandest homes and families in Britain as well as local weddings and parties.

They decided to combine and expand their strengths, and March saw the opening of their bright new delicatessen in Haddington, East Lothian.

In addition Joanna has brought her food hygiene business - Clean Cuisine - to the partnership. It is in demand by small and large concerns who must comply with the food hygiene regulations (1995); every business which handles food and drinks for consumption must train their employees and them- selves and hold a food hygiene certificate.

The business goes from strength to strength. Angela and Joanna's reputation stands before them as Jaques & Lawrence is constantly sought after throughout Edinburgh, East Lothian and beyond.

Angela Jaques

Angela Jaques is a trained artist who came into the food business after a successful round of amateur competitions which included BBC's Masterchef and The Sunday Times Amateur Chef of the Year.

Consolidating these successes she persuaded the Scotch Malt Whisky Society to broaden its facilities and offer food to its members. This proved a great success as she developed a vigorous lunch-time trade and private dining facility for the Society, and increasing its revenue year on year.

At the same time her outside catering business has continued to expand. This became so successful that she went into partnership with Joanna in March 2001.

Joanna Lawrence

Joanna Lawrence originally trained at L'Ecole de Cuisine Française and went on to cook with Anthony Worrel Thompson. She has cooked for some of the grandest houses in Britain, developing her skills in imaginative country house cuisine and expanding her contacts in this area.

Working within the Exchange Group of restaurants training and managing staff, she gained valuable skills which lead to her qualification in Advanced Hygiene. Recently Joanna has been responsible for the management of health and hygiene at the Edinburgh Cookery School, as well as advising on curriculum content. This work has led into her existing staff training company - Clean Cuisine. Her outside catering has continued throughout.

The delicatessen

Our delicatessen, housed in a Georgian coach house, is situated in central Haddington. The window area has a small expresso bar for eating, where you can choose from a daily changing menu of salads, soups, sandwiches and home baking prepared to Angela and Joanna's own recipes. Alternatively you can suppliment your weekly shop with antipasti platters, hand-made pestos and sauces. We stock, or can quickly order in, all the top quality ingredients a gourment cook could require.

We also make carry-out evening meals to order at short notice. Simply phone us with your order in the morning, and your freshly cooked meal made from the finest ingredients will be ready to collect in the afternoon.

Suppliers

We are always in pursuit of the highest quality ingredients. We use locally sourced goods from some of Scotland's best suppliers as well as some of the finest foreign imports.

You can be assured of excellent cheeses from Iain Mellis, one of Britian's most highly acclaimed cheesemongers, fine salamis from Italy, including San Danielle Parma Ham, quality wines from Grand Cru Classe Cellars, local organic breads from the Trusty Crust, as well as the freshest fish, meats, fruit and vegetables.

The team

The Jaques & Lawrence team will provide the highest quality service to help you through your event. Your meal can be prepared in your own house or venue, or we will arrange for it to be available for uplift, delivery and presentation. Our waiters are trained not only to serve, but to handle silverware and crystal correctly. We will work carefully with your own linen and crockery or can provide a full hire service. A full clean-up service can, of course, be expected. We will be efficient, polite and discreet, leaving you time to host and enjoy your guests.

Cakes & flowers

Our variety of cake makers specialise in either modern or traditional designs. We can commission any cake to your specification. We use florists Flowers by Monica Higgins and Lily Flowers. Their lavish displays transform any venue
